Convert iPhone HEIC photos to JPEG, PNG or WebP — free, no upload

Works on Mac, Windows and Android. Runs entirely in your browser.

Why HEIC photos need conversion

HEIC is Apple's proprietary image format, introduced in iOS 11. While iPhones use it by default because it produces smaller files than JPEG, it creates compatibility problems when sharing photos with non-Apple devices and platforms.

🖥 Windows compatibility

Windows 10 and 11 require a paid HEIC codec from the Microsoft Store to open HEIC files. Without it, HEIC photos appear as blank icons. Converting to JPEG ensures anyone on Windows can open your photos without additional software.

🌐 Web platform support

Most websites, web apps, and online tools do not accept HEIC uploads. E-commerce platforms (Amazon, Etsy, Shopify), social media schedulers, and email clients generally require JPEG or PNG. Converting before upload prevents upload failures.

📷 Older Android devices

Android devices prior to Android 12 cannot open HEIC files natively. Converting to JPEG ensures compatibility when sharing photos with Android contacts.

👔 Professional workflows

Design tools (older versions of Photoshop, Lightroom, Canva), document editors, and professional image processors often require JPEG or PNG input. Converting HEIC to JPEG integrates iPhone photos into professional workflows without compatibility issues.

Format options for HEIC conversion

JPEGSmallestSharing, email, social media, e-commerceMaximum compatibility. Slight quality loss at compression. 90% quality recommended.

WebPMediumWeb use, blogs, online portfoliosModern format. 25–35% smaller than JPEG. Not all software supports WebP.

Frequently asked questions

Why does iOS save photos as HEIC?
Apple uses HEIC because it produces files approximately half the size of JPEG at equivalent visual quality — saving storage space on iPhones. The trade-off is reduced compatibility outside the Apple ecosystem.
How do I stop my iPhone from saving photos as HEIC?
Go to Settings → Camera → Formats → Most Compatible. This switches the camera to save JPEG instead of HEIC. The downside is larger file sizes. Alternatively, continue shooting in HEIC and convert when sharing.
Is there quality loss when converting HEIC to JPEG?
At 90%+ JPEG quality, the difference is imperceptible in normal use. Both are lossy formats, so re-encoding introduces a very small additional quality reduction. For archiving purposes, convert to PNG instead for lossless output.
Can this tool convert HEIC files from any device?
HEIC files from iPhones, iPad, and Mac are all supported. Some newer Android devices and cameras also produce HEIC files — these should convert correctly. The full heic2any library integration in V1.1 will ensure universal HEIC support across all browsers.
