The Poshmark photo problem — and a 2026 change worth knowing

Poshmark stopped being a square app in March 2026. As part of its app redesign, listing photos now display in portrait 3:4 across the feed and search. Poshmark's own announcement is blunt about it: photos are “automatically framed into portrait view”, and square covers get adjusted to fit.

That matters if you are reading a 2025-era guide telling you to square everything. A 1:1 image still works — Poshmark preserves your original and buyers see it in full when they tap through — but in the feed it gets reframed, and you are giving up screen space to sellers whose covers are already portrait. Poshmark said its own testing found the larger portrait photos drove better results.

So be deliberate about which problem you are solving. If you are shooting fresh for Poshmark, just use your phone's normal portrait orientation and skip resizing entirely — that is Poshmark's own advice, and it is correct. Use the squarer here when you are cross-listing: one square file that behaves predictably on Mercari, Depop and eBay, and gets reframed on Poshmark rather than badly cropped.

Poshmark's framing tips for the new format: centre the item vertically and horizontally, fill the frame, and leave a little breathing room at the edges so nothing important sits where the crop lands.

How to resize a photo for Poshmark

Drop in your product photo

Straight off your phone is fine. Nothing is uploaded — it never leaves this tab.

Pick your platform

Poshmark's preset is 1080×1080. Since March 2026 the feed reframes this to portrait 3:4.

Choose the background

White is the safer choice here, since Poshmark reframes the image and blur can end up cropped oddly.

Download and list

Centre the item with space at the edges and it survives the portrait reframe intact.

Why Poshmark sellers use this

🔄 Built for cross-listing

Since Poshmark went portrait 3:4, square is a cross-listing format rather than a Poshmark-native one. One square file behaves predictably on Mercari, Depop and eBay, and gets reframed here rather than badly cropped.

📏 Predictable framing

Centre the item with space at the edges and it survives Poshmark's portrait reframe intact — which is exactly what Poshmark's own framing guidance asks for.

🔒 Photos stay on your phone

Runs entirely in this browser tab. Nothing is uploaded, and EXIF location data does not leave with the file.

✅ Shooting fresh for Poshmark?

Then skip this tool. Use your phone's normal portrait mode — that is Poshmark's own advice since the March 2026 redesign, and it is right.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best photo size for Poshmark?
Poshmark displays listing photos as squares — 1080 × 1080 pixels is the sweet spot: sharp on retina screens without slowing uploads. This tool's Poshmark preset applies it automatically.
How do I make my photo square for Poshmark without cropping?
Upload the photo, keep the Poshmark preset selected, and click Square & Download. The full photo is scaled to fit inside a 1080 × 1080 square and the empty space is filled with white or a blur — nothing is cropped.
Should I use white background or blur?
White looks clean and professional and is the marketplace standard for product shots. Blurred-edge fill looks more native for lifestyle/fashion shots. Try both — it's one click each.
Will the quality drop?
No visible loss — the output is JPEG at 92% quality, higher than what the platforms themselves re-compress to on upload.
Why does Poshmark use 1080×1080 square photos?
Poshmark displays all listing photos as squares in the closet grid. 1080×1080 px matches the resolution Poshmark uses for its feed and detail view — large enough to stay sharp on Retina screens. Uploading a non-square photo forces Poshmark to crop it, usually losing the top and bottom of the item.
Is this really free with no watermark?
Yes. No account, no watermark, no limits. The tool runs in your browser so there are no server costs behind it.
